Abstract

There are difficulties in emotion recognition from facial

expressions in schizophrenia. Emotion recognition is one of

the components of social functioning. The purpose of this

review article is to explain the relationship between emotion

recognition and social functioning in schizophrenia and

draw attention of psychiatric nurses to the area that can be

used in the rehabilitation of patients. Psychoeducation or

computer-based programs for facial recognition of emotions

increase the social functioning of patients with schizophrenia.

Psychiatric nurses may contribute to reinforce social

functioning of patients with schizophrenia by carrying out

studies about emotion recognition with schizophrenics.
