Abstract

Mining that has existed as an occupation since the beginning of mankind is considered as the most dangerous job throughout the world due to the life threats it possesses. Mining involves fire, floods, gas and dust explosions, collapse, and accidents, disease and death risks. These negative working conditions may also cause or pave the way for certain mental health problems. Psychiatric nurses, an indispensable part of the team in mental health activities, are both planners and implementers of preventive attempts to determine the mental health needs of miners who face numerous risks, and concerning miners’ health problems resulting from working conditions. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the effects of underground mining on mental health and their evaluation in terms of psychiatric nursing.
