ABSTRACT
Objective
The aim of this study is to determine the problems experienced by the caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients during the diagnosis and treatment process.
Methods
The study was designed with the qualitative research method in a phenomonological pattern. The sample of the study consisted of 16 Alzheimer patients and their relatives. Data were collected by in-depth interview method. The opinions of the patient relatives were given qualitatively.
Results
The study; all caregivers were found to be ill. Common theme found “forgetfulness” relatives of patients as a reason to consult a physician, “sadness” when they first hear the diagnosis they feel hiss, “worry” about the treatment process.
Conclusion
Relatives of patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s the determined uncertainty about the course of the disease during the treatment process and concerned about patient care in the later stages of the disease. In this context; It is necessary to disseminate institutions that can support disease management and to raise public awareness about Alzheimer’s disease by health professionals.
