Anxieties Related to Delivery and Postpartum Period of Pregnant Women Acording to Pregnancy Periods

Abstract

Aim: Pregnancy is one of the most important variables of woman's life and is a place where psychological, biological and emotional changes occur in women. Pregnancies are worried about the intensified feeling of a possible danger or a bad situation that can occur during labor and postpartum. The aim of study is to anxieties related to delivery and postpartum period of pregnant women according to pregnancy periods.

Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out on n=273 pregnancy who applied for control at university hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Polyclinic and the Obstetrics Service between January-March 2017. The data was collected “Personal Information Form” and “Fear of Childbirth and Postpartum Period Scale (FCPPS)”.

Results: It was found that total mean score of Scale of Fears of Childbirth and Postpartum Period of first trimester pregnant women was 4,2±2,8, 2, second trimester was 4,9±3,0 and third trimester was 6,1±2,0 and there was statistically significant difference (p<0.001). As the age decreased in all of the pregnancy periods, it was statistically significant that the mean score of FCPPS was increased (p <0.001). It was found that the mean scores of FCPPS were significantly higher in the 1st trimester and 2nd trimester primiparous pregnancies compared to multiparous pregnancies in the same gestational period (p <0.001). It was found that the mean scores of FCPPS were significantly higher primiparous pregnancies in the 1st trimester and 2nd trimester pregnancies compared to the multiparous pregnancies in the same pregnancy period (p <0.001).

Conclusions: It was found that level of anxiety in pregnant was generally medium; and higher in third trimester pregnant in compared to others.
