Abstract
INTRODUCTION
This study was conducted in order to determine communication and empathi skill levels of nurses.
METHODS
This descriptive study was conducted between March and May 2013 is a public hospital and a university hospital located in Kars. The study was completed with 578 service nurses and officers, who were working and were not on leave or on sick leave in the hospital between dates when the data were collected and argued to participate in the study. Introductory information form for nurses, Empathic Skill Scale, and Communication Skills Inventory were used to collect the data.
RESULTS
It was determined that age, educational background, and weekly working time of nurses affected communication and empathic skills. Communication and empathic skill scale total scores of nurses included in the study were high.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
It was found that there is a positive and statistically significant correlation between communication skills and subscales and empathic skills of nurses.
