Abstract
Objective: The research was planned as descriptive and cross sectional study to determine the obesity status of patients who referred to a family health center in Istanbul
Method: The research was carried out with 185 individuals who referred to a Family Health Center in İstanbul between 15 February - 25 May 2017. Questionnaire was used for data collection. For statistical analysis, percentage, frequency, mean, and chi-square were used. Significance level was considered as p <.05 in all tests.
Results: 59.5% of the individuals who participated in the study were women, 40.5% were men. The average age of the individuals was 35.65 ± 14.12. The average body mass index of the individuals was 26.13 kg / m2, waist circumference was 87.7 cm, hip circumference was 98.9 cm and waist hip ratio was 0.88 cm. It was found that 22.16% of the individuals were obese (25.45% of women, 17.33% of men were obese). It was found that 81.82% of women had high waist / hip ratio (0.8 and over) and 4% of men had high waist / hip ratio (1 and over). It was determined that gender was no significant relationship between body mass index (p =.265) and waist / hip ratio (p =.194). There was no significant relationship between obesity and lifestyle of individulas in the study.
Conclusions: The prevalence of obesity was high in study.
