Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to examine the liking children situation of the third grade nursing students who have taken the applied course of the pediatric nursing, and the factors affecting the same.
Method: Data of the study was collected by a “Personal Information Form” prepared by the researcher using the literature, and “Barnett Liking of Children Scale”.
Results: The age average of the third grade nursing students participating in the study was 19,00±22,01. It was determined that the 58,9% of the nursing students was female and the number of the sibling was 5,484±2,479. The average of the scores obtained by the students from the liking of child scale was found to be 83,153±15,282. 81,1% of the nursing students stated that they liked the pediatric clinic and 55,8% felt apprehension and stressful because it was the first time they took the applied course of the pediatric nursing. A significant difference was found between the average score of the students’ liking of children scale and their gender and desire to work in the pediatric clinic (p<,05). It was also found that there was a significant correlation between the number of sibling and average score of liking of children scale, of the students (p<,05), whereas the average score of liking of children scale was increased as the number of the siblings was decreased. average score of liking of children scale the attitudes of the child were found to be high (p <.05).
Conclusion: As a result, the average score of the nursing students’ liking of children scale was found high. It was found that the students wanted to work in a children's clinic because of being women, having a small number of siblings and positively influencing their children's liking.
