Abstract
Aim: This study was conducted in order to explore the image of nursing as perceived by audiology, nutrition and physiotherapy-rehabilitation students.
Method: The sample of this descriptive study consisted of 120 students studying in the departments of Audiology, Nutrition-Dietetics and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. The questionnaire form consisting of the statements about the demographic data and the image of the nursing image was used for data collection. Number, percentage calculations and Chi-square test were used for data analysis.
Results: Most of the students stated nursing as a respectable, professional and valuable profession and nurses should have at least undergraduate education. In addition, most of the students stated that the nursing profession is not only a profession specific to women; the knowledge level of nurses is as important as the knowledge level of doctors; and that nurses’ duties are not merely to make injection and measure blood pressure. However, it was also determined that almost half of the students thought that nurses are doctors’ assistants.
Conclusion: Apart from the fact that almost half of the students stated that nurses were doctors’ assistants, the perceived nursing image of the students participating in our study was found to be generally good.
