Abstract

Infertility is expressed as a life crisis which is affected by many factors such as cultural, religious and class that cause medical, psychological and social problems in individuals. Sexuality is considered to be equivalent to reproductive function except for a need. Therefore, sexual problems occur in individuals who see infertility as a loss of reproductive ability. Male and female sexual life becomes monotonous and unexcited due to infertility and treatment. The deterioration in sexual function may cause infertility and negatively affect infertility treatment. Therefore, giving sexual counseling to individuals in the process of infertility has an important place. With their professional knowledge and skills, nurses can take an active role in sexual counseling. The aim of this review is to examine the effects of infertility on sexual life and the importance of sexual counseling in infertile individuals.
