Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the psychological symptom levels and the influencing factors of university students. Methods: The sample group of the descriptive type study consisted of 1015 students who were studying at the undergraduate level of in a state university. Participants' Personal Information Form, Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) was applied. The data was evaluated using Shapiro Wilk test, Student t test, Variance analysis, Levene test, One Way ANOVA, Welch test, LSD and Games-Howell. Results: 698 (68.8%) of the students are in the 21-25 age group. The most common symptoms according to BSI score average in students are; depression, anxiety and negative self-concept.According the results, there is a statistically significance between the BSI, and gender, studying in the department willingly, family type, income status, housing status and physically self-harming variables (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0001). Conclusion: According to the results of the research, it is determined that the students who are woman, do not study in the department willingly, are not parents, stay with relatives and social services, have poor socioeconomic level and who stated that they have physically harmed themselves before, constitute the risk group.
