Abstract

INTRODUCTION

OBJECTIVE

METHODS

This descriptive study was conducted between January-June 2014. The population of study was consisted of all women over the age of 40 in the Çorum province. The sample was consisted from 224 women who were registered to the centre of Şenyurt Family Medicine. The data was collected by using face to face method with a 27- item data collecting form about Women’s Knowledge and Practices Regarding Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening. Data was evaluated by using percentage, means, Chi-Square test in SPSS 22.0. programme.

RESULTS

It was found that 51.8% of the women have knew and made the breast self examination. In addition, only two women had a mammogram. Only 10.7% of women reported that they went to the gynecological examination for the purpose of screening. 51.8% of women didn’t know the pap-smear test and 66.1% of never had this test. In addition, almost all women stated that they didn’t know when and how often they should done pap-smear test. There wasn’t any significant difference between the age groups and education levels of women according to breast self examination and gynecological screening (p < 0.05).
