Abstract
Objective: The research was designed to determine the levels of emotional intelligence, humor styles, and the relationship between nurses.
Method: The research was conducted as a comparative-descriptive study with 89 nurses working in pediatric clinics of two hospitals in Istanbul between December 2017 and March 2018. An identification information form, the Modified Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale (SEIS) and the Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ) were used in the study.
Results: There was a statistically significant positive correlation between optimism /mood regulation subscale with self-enhancing humor (r: 0.255; p: 0.016), aggressive humor (r: 0,270; p: 0.016) and self-defeating humor (r: 0.237; p: 0.025) and between SEIS total scores and aggressive humor subscale scores (r: 0,324, p: 0,002).
Conclusion: In the research, it has been reached that nurses working in the pediatric clinic had higher levels of emotional intelligence and negative-unhealthy humor styles and as the emotional intelligence of nurses increased, levels of self-enhancing, self-defeating and aggressive humor increased.
