Abstract

Aim: This study was done in order to determine spiritual support perceptions and the affecting factors among nursing students.

Method: This study was a descriptive study. The population of the study was consisted of all the nursing students who studied at the school of health located in a province in Mediterranean Region during 2016-2017 academic year. Data were gathered using survey technique between the 1st and the 31st of April 2017 by contacting 323 nursing students who accepted to join the study. As the data collection tool, Information Request Form and Spiritual Support Perception Scale were used. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using SPSS-21 package program and descriptive statistics, Kruskal Wallis and MannWhitney U tests.

Results: Average age of the participant students was 20.86±1.84 years, 65.3% of the participants were female, 96.6% of them were unmarried. It was identified that nurse students’ total average score of spiritual support perceptions was high (52.02±6.99). 58.8% of the students told that they had/heard about spiritual care previously and 75.2% of them wanted to receive a training/course about spiritual care in the academic department where they studied.

Conclusion: It was found that nursing students’ spiritual support perception levels were high.
