Abstract
In the postoperative period, gas and secretions cause abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting and pain in the stomach and small and large intestines due to delayed motility of gastrointestinal system and negatively affect the comfort level of the patients. Chewing gum activates the cephalic vagal reflex and stimulates intestine function in the postoperative period. In this article, the effect of chewing gum after cesarean section and the factors affecting the success rate are reviewed in the light of current literature.
