Abstract
Objective: The research was conducted to examine the effect of motivational interview-based counseling on educational stress in nursing students who received distance education during the Covid-19 pandemic process.
Methods: The sample of the study consisted of 60 students who received nursing education at a university and took the course of surgical diseases nursing between December 2020 and June 2021. Six sessions of motivational interviews were applied to the students in the intervention group who were separated by randomization method. The students in the control group were not applied. Research data were collected with “Descriptive Information Form” and “Nursing Education Stress Scale”.
Results: When the average scores of the students from the “Nursing Education Stress Scale” are examined; In the intervention group, the pretest total mean score was 70.40±11.78, while the posttest mean value decreased to 27.10±4.26 (p<0.05). However, ın the posttest, it was observed that the mean score of the intervention group (27,10±4.26) was statistically significantly lower than the control group (66,60±10.11) (p<0,05).
Conclusion: Motivational interview-based counseling is effective in reducing the educational stress of nursing students who receive distance education during the Covid-19 pandemic process.
