Abstract
Objectives: The goal of this research was to find the level and severity of fatigue in patients with sleep apnea regarding to their features of sociodemographic and disease.
Methods: After getting the permission from ethics committee, the research was performed with 50 patients from a faculty hospital and seven private hospitals in Istanbul.
The information was collected by identification form, Fatigue Severity and Fatigue Impact Scale. To analyze the information, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis test and Spearman Correlation test were performed.
Results: 50% of the patients were between the ages 20 to 40, 60% were male, 78% were married, 54% were high school graduates, 46 % were civil officers and 70% had income equal their outcome. 36% of the patients had three years and over diagnosis, 38% had three years and over treatment, 82% did not use drugs, 90% had obstructive type, and 76% had no additional chronic disease. Patients who felt the need of sleep in the morning, patients who used medication, who have additional chronical medical disease and who have weight gaining problems were having more severe fatigue experiences than patients who do not experience these changes.
Conclusion: The usage of medication, complaints of weight gain, the need of morning sleep and additional chronical diseases were affecting the level of fatiguenen that comes with sleep apnea.
