Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Nursing education is a training that requires advanced professional knoeledges and skills, which various educational stress and emotional exhaustion are often encountered. The nurses are at high risk of losing their self-compassion. The current study examined self-compassion among nurses and nursing students.

METHODS

This study was planned as a descriptive study. Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, frequency and percentage) were used for analyzing socio-demographic characteristics while Kruskall Wallis and Mann-Whitney U test were used for evaluating the dimensions of the Self Compassions Scale.

RESULTS

Results indicated that self-compassion was associated with year of study, previous place of residence, perceived psychological state and perceived level of communication skills among nursing students.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION

Finally, total level of self-compassion was found to be medium with the nursing students. Findings suggest that self-compassion may be an effective intervention target for nursing students suffering from negative self-views.
