Abstract
Objective: This descriptive study aims to examine the level
of work-related stress, role ambiguity, role conflict-situation,
and the effect of other related factors on the nurses working
in hospitals in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine.
Methods: In order to collect socio-demographic data of the
nurses ‘Personal Information Form’ for determining the
level of role ambiguity role conflict ‘Role Ambiguity Role
Conflict Scale’ was applied, and finally ‘Work Related
Tension Scale’ was used in order to determine the level of
work-related stress. Data were registered using SPSS 17.0
, and analyzed using frequency distribution, independent
t-test, One-way ANOVA and correlation tests.
Results: A statistically significant correlation was found
between the duration of the profession, role conflict,
being more significant in nurses working for 1-5 years
(p<0,05). The correlation between nurses’ work patterns
and role conflict was found to significant, and being more
meaningful among shift workers (p<0,05). Positive, and
statistically significant correlations were detected among
role conflict, role ambiguity, and work-related tension
(p<0.05).
Conclusion: In line with the results of study it was suggested
that; working hours of nurses should not be more than
40 hours, and hours of shift working should be regulate.
