Abstract

Chronic diseases are increasing along with aging and correspondingly drug utilization rate is also increasing. The presence of more than one chronic diseases in elderly people leads to multiple drug use, and this situation brings along the problems of taking the correct medicine and drug compliance as well. In some studies carried out, it was reported that the drug compliance of elderly people living at home was lower compared to elderly patients staying in hospitals or nursing homes, and they did not take some medicines or skipped doses. The nurse, who is a member of the health team who knows the best of the healthy / ill individual and observes the effects of the drug, has important roles and responsibilities especially in elderly people. Supporting the independence of the elderly individual is the most important part of holistic care. For this reason, it is very important for elderly people to use nursing process, which is a scientific problem solving method, in drug management.
