Abstract
Throughout history, dance has played a very important role in the cultural and social practices of societies and has become a kind of art and entertainment. Dance, enabling the integration of the body and feelings of the individual has been used as a treatment method since ancient times. Dance is a useful method for therapy, allowing the body to express itself by using the body. Dance and movement therapy, based on the therapeutic use of movement to strengthen the emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration of the person, has been frequently used in different patient and disease groups since the late 1940s. In this article, it is aimed to inform the health workers about the effects of dance and movement therapy in the light of the literature about the effects and use in different patient groups and to contribute to the development of body and mind intervention in mental illnesses.
