Abstract

Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Healthcare Provider Attitudes Toward Child Maltreatment Reporting Scale on Nursing Students.

Method: This methodological study was conducted with 210 nursing students. A translation / re-translation method was used to test the validity of the language. The validity of the scale was assessed by expert opinion and construct validity (exploratory factor analysis). Reliability of the scale; Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated to evaluate internal consistency. To determine the test-retest reliability, a subgroup was applied a second time two weeks after the first application.

Results: The Cronbach's alpha value of the scale was 0.83, and test-retest reliability was 0.90. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, it was determined that the total explained variance of the 2 factor model of scale was 50.25%, the factor loadings of the items were above the 0.30 limit value and the scale had structural validity.

Conclusion: The results of the study show that the Turkish version of the Healthcare Provider Attitudes Toward Child Maltreatment Reporting Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to determine student nurses' attitudes towards reporting child abuse.
