INTRODUCTION: This study was conducted in order to determine communication and empathi skill levels of nurses.
METHODS: This descriptive study was conducted between March and May 2013 is a public hospital and a university hospital located in Kars. The study was completed with 578 service nurses and officers, who were working and were not on leave or on sick leave in the hospital between dates when the data were collected and argued to participate in the study. Introductory information form for nurses, Empathic Skill Scale, and Communication Skills Inventory were used to collect the data.
RESULTS: It was determined that age, educational background, and weekly working time of nurses affected communication and empathic skills. Communication and empathic skill scale total scores of nurses included in the study were high.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: It was found that there is a positive and statistically significant correlation between communication skills and subscales and empathic skills of nurses.

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Bu çalışma, hemşirelerin iletişim ve empati beceri düzeylerini belirlemek için yapılmıştır.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Araştırma, tanımlayıcı nitelikte olup Mart-Mayıs 2013 tarihleri Kars’ ta bulunan bir devlet hastanesi ve bir üniversite hastanesinde yapılmıştır. Verilerin toplandığı tarihler arasında hastanede çalışan, izinli veya raporlu olmayan, araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 578 servis hemşiresi ve sorumluları ile araştırma tamamlanmıştır. Verilerin toplanmasında; hemşireleri tanıtıcı bilgi formu, Empati Beceri Ölçeği ve İletişim Becerileri Envanteri kullanılmıştır.
BULGULAR: Hemşirelerin yaşı, eğitim durumu ve haftalık çalışma sürelerinin iletişim ve empati becerilerini etkilediği belirlenmiştir. Araştırma kapsamına alınan hemşirelerin iletişim ve empati beceri ölçek toplam puanlarının yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır.
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Hemşirelerin iletişim becerileri ve alt boyutları ile empati becerileri arasında pozitif yönde ve istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu bulunmuştur.
