Amaç: Araştırma üniversite öğrencilerinin cinsel yolla bulaşan hastalıklar (CYBH) konusunda bilgi ve görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Materyal-metot: Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tipte olan araştırma 06 -15 Mart 2015 tarihleri arasında, örneklem seçimine gidilmeksizin 2014-2015 eğitim öğretim yılında Balıkesir’de özel bir kız öğrenci yurdunda kalan 327 öğrenciden, gönüllü, sağlık yüksekokulu veya tıp fakültesinde öğrenci olmayan 250 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak 21 sorudan oluşan anket formu kullanılmıştır. Veri analizi Statical Package for Social Sciences for Windows 16.0 bilgisayar programında, aritmetik ortalama, yüzdelik sayıları içeren betimleyici analizler ve pearson ki kare testi yapılmıştır.
Bulgular: Öğrencilerin yaş ortalaması 20,94 (±1,82) ve %70, 8’inin büyükşehir-şehirde yaşadığı belirlenmiştir. Araştırmaya katılanların %44,4’ü ailede cinsellik konusunda konuşulmadığını, %56’sı evlilikten önce her türlü cinsel ilişkiye karşı olduğunu, %66’sı cinsel sağlık ve üreme sağlığı konusunda bilgisi olduğunu, bilgi kaynakları olarak %24’ü dergi, kitap, televizyonu belirtmiştir. Öğrencilerin, %77,2’si birden fazla cinsel partneri olma, %61’i hayat kadınlarıyla birlikte olma, %9,6’sı uyuşturucu bağımlısı olma durumunu CYBH’ın bulaşması için risk faktörü olarak belirtmiştir. Öğrencilerin %96’sı CYBH’ın kan yolu ile bulaştığını, %95’i bu hastalıkların sağlık problemine yol açacağını belirtmiştir.CYBH’dan korunmada öğrencilerin %71,2’si kondom kullanılabileceğini belirtmiştir. Katılımcıların üniversiteye gelmeden önce yaşadığı yer ile ailede cinselliğin konuşulması arasında anlamlı fark saptanmıştır.
Sonuç: Araştırmada üniversite öğrencilerinin CYBH belirtileri ve risk faktörleri konusunda bilgi ihtiyaçlarının olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Gençlere erken dönemde riskli davranışlar sergilemeden önce gerekli eğitimlerin yapılması gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.
