ABSTRACT

Objective

To determine whether compassion and psychological well-being levels of healthcare workers affect their attitude towards organ donation.

Methods

This descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational study was conducted with the participation of 584 healthcare workers. The data were collected between December 2022 and April 2023 using the Descriptive Form, the Compassion Scale, the Organ Donation Attitude Scale, and the Psychological Well-Being Scale. Hayes’ Process macro (Model 4) within the bootstrapping method (5000 bootstrap samples) was used for mediation analysis.

Results

The mean organ donation attitude score of healthcare professionals was 3.62±0.89. The mean score of compassion is 4.25±0.53. The mean score of psychological well-being was 5.72±0.78. It was found that psychological well-being mediated the effect of compassion on organ donation attitude.

Conclusion

It shows that programs that support psychological well-being and encourage compassion should be implemented in order to develop positive attitudes towards organ donation in healthcare professionals.
